Tallax’s corporate slogan promises miracles to any client who can pay the price­­—and the person delivering on those promises is seventeen-year-old Alice. A genetically modified human, Alice possesses wings like an angel and supernatural abilities. For six years, she has performed military demonstrations with her trainer, Titus, and given our miracle healings like a candy dispenser. Her one allowance of freedom is the local academy, where Alice can pretend to be just another girl among people her own age. It is there that she meets Caleb, a boy whose free-spirited nature causes Alice to question her reality and recognize that the liberties granted by Tallax are contrived.

He knows Alice’s innocence makes her vulnerable to manipulation, and when he becomes certain that darkness awaits with her new friend, he attempts to separate Alice from Caleb.
